The origin of SMG Group goes back to 2001 when the founder Mr. Ekaphan Phaphithack started his main business – civil construction for government and international projects, such as roads, dams and government buildings.
In 2008, Mr. Ekaphan Phaphithack, the Group’s President, invested more than USD 100,000,000 to establish 6 new core business groups, offering more comprehensive products and services to both public and private sectors as follows:

“For over a decade, SMG Group has been recognized as one of the fastest growing private companies in Lao PDR. Starting out in civil construction, we foresaw the possibilities for other businesses to drive the development of the country. Such businesses will also lead to the expansion in AEC countries and global markets.
This year is another successful year of SMG Group as each of business group has significantly exceeded its growth target in terms of both revenues and new projects acquired. Thanks to organisation’s good governance, SMG Group has achieved considerable targets and projects. The highlights are the expansion of JDB Bank to 55 branches nationwide within 6 years, and other new 4 branches planned in the beginning of 2019. In 2019, BET Group seriously studies feasibilities and possibilities of solar farming project in Lao PDR., and expects to operate the project in 2020.
From these achievements, I am confident that SMG Group will become one of the most trusted leaders across all business areas and caters trusted and quality products and services in Lao PDR and AEC countries.”
